Armenia has chosen its two representatives for Slavianski Bazaar 2020, Narek Markosyan (12) and Harutyun Khachatryan (29).
After two days of performances in Yerevan, Armenia has chosen its representatives for this years edition of Slavianski Bazaar. In the children’s contest Narek Markosyan aged 12 was named the winner. Narek has previously attempted to represent Armenia at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest finishing 7th in the 2019 selection show.
Harutyan Khachatyran is 29 and studied at the State Song Theatre of Armenia. The singer has prior experience on television contests having competed in The Voice.
Armenia has never won Slavianski Bazaar, its best result came in 2010 when Anahit Shahbazyan received 2nd prize in the International Pop Song Performers contest. For the past decade the nation has failed to place within the top four prize positions.
What is Slavianski Bazaar?
Slavianski Bazaar has been held in Vitebsk, Belarus annually since 1992. The event is a showcase of music, dance and culture from nations across the world. As part of Slavianski Bazaar there are two competitive singing competitions, the Children’s Contest and the International Pop Song Performers Contest.
The International Pop Song Performers Contest has been held since 1992 and launched a number of careers. Previous winners include Ruslana (1996), Željko Joksimović (1999), Toše Proeski (2000), Donny Montell (2008) and Dimash Kudaibergen (2015). The contest sees acts performing a Slavic song and a world hit, a ten person jury awards between 0-10 points for each performance.
The Children’s Contest was first held in 2003 and has been a launching point for a number of young performers. Singers who have taken part in the contest have gone on to represent their country at Junior Eurovision include; Ksenia Sitnik, Andrey Kunets, Luara Hayrapetyan, Anastasiya Baginska.
