Variety reports that the American Song Contest will be launched in the holiday season of 2021.
Variety has revealed more details about the upcoming American Song Contest including confirmation of the launch of the competition during the holiday season of 2021. This means the show will be held between late November and early January.
The format has been further refined since the last reports about the contest at the beginning of this year. Propagate Content will create The American Song Contest Academy, this group will be formed of music professionals from across the US that represent a variety of styles and genres. They will alongside current artists, notable members of the music industry and regional audiences select acts to compete from all fifty states.
Once all fifty artists have been selected a series of qualifying rounds will be held with artists competing against one another. Following this semi-finals and a Grand Final will then be held to name the winner of the first American Song Contest.
It has been confirmed that the acts competing in the competition will need to meet the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest, which the American Song Contest is based off of. Groups of up to six artists will compete with all performers taking to the stage with original songs.
Eurovision in the USA
In 2006 ahead of the 51st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Greece it was announced that NBC had secured the rights to a Eurovision Song Contest for the United States.
After the initial media reports in February 2006 talk about the contest dried up. The Production company Reveille now known as Endemol Shine North America released no further information about the contest. Reports continued on the contest from various media outlets about the contest including Metro who reported the contest would be a multi-week event.
