The Altai Republic’s only participant in the Turkvizyon Song Contest to date has helped mark 85 years since Abakan became a city.
Artur Marluzhokov traveled from the Altai Republic to the neighboring republic of Khakassia to perform as part of celebrations in Abakan. Since participating in the contest in 2013, Artur has gone on to perform across Russia and become the Minister for Culture in the Altai Republic.
Also performing at the celebrations in the capital of Khaskssia were Natalia Podolskaya who represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. As well as Stas Mikhaylov who is one of the most renowned singers in Russia as well as the recipient of the title “Meritorious Artist of the Russian Federation”.

The Turkvizyon Song Contest was first held in 2013 in the Turkish city of Eskişehir. The contest which is open to Turkic nations and regions such as Turkey, Kazakhstan and Yakutia. The contest follows a similar format to the Eurovision Song Contest, with songs limited to being 4 minutes long. To date Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have won the contest.
