Ashgabat the Capital of Turkmenistan has been announced as the host city of the ABU TV Song Festival 2018.

Turkmenistan has been revealed as the host country for the ABU TV Song Festival 2018. The country will play host to the 7th edition of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Television Song Festival, alongside hosting next years ABU General Assembly and associated meetings. The date of the festival and the general assembly are yet to be confirmed, but is traditionally held between September and November.

Turkmenistan made their debut appearance at the ABU TV Song Festival this year in Chengdu, China, joining singers from thirteen other singers from across the globe. At the festival which took place just over a week ago, Turkmenistan was represented by Sohbet Kasimov and his song “With You”.

The announcement by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union means that for the first time Central Asia will be playing host to both the TV Song Festival and Radio Song Festival. In July, Astana in Kazakhstan will host the ABU Radio Song Festival.

Since 2012 the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union has organised a non-competitive festival highlighting the talents of its member nations. Countries such as Afghanistan, Brunei, China and the Maldives have participated in the event, showcasing the best of their talented music industry. Songs taking part in the event can be the singers own or a cover. The event is planned to eventually be turned into a competitive contest.
