There have been reports that the Assciation of Southeast Asian Nations is looking at creating a Eurovision style song contest for the region.
The Deputy Secretary-General of Asean Political-Security Community said that talks have been held about the introduction of a high-profile event that will bring together the people of the ASEAN region. ASEAN is made up of 10 member states, they are:

- East Timor
- Papua New Guinea
No details have yet been worked out about the event such as the name, date or where the competition would be held. Asia has not seen an international televised song contest since the 1990s when the ABU ran the ABU Golden Kite World Song Festival, the competition was won by Indonesia, South Korea and Australia.
