Austria will debut in the Turkvision Song Contest 2018, joining the likes of Sweden and the Netherlands in this years competition.
Elvira Michieva is set to represent Austria on their debut appearance at the Turkvision Song Contest later this year. The singer who is of Azerbaijani heritage has previously tried to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest and was a member of the band Bisou between 2007 and 2008.
Austria’s debut in the competition means that the number of Western European nations has reached three, also taking part from Western Europe this year are;
- The Netherlands
Germany who has participated in the competition since 2014 has yet to confirm their participation in the competition.
The Turkvision Song Contest appears is returning 2018 after the official website for the contest has been updated over the past week. Turkvizyon.com.tr features the logo for the 2018 edition of the contest and also articles on the artists who are already confirmed as taking part in the competition.
The Turkvision Song Contest was last held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2015. The contest was then cancelled in 2016 due to issues securing a suitable host city for the contest, following security issues in Turkey. In 2017 the contest was due to return to the stage, hosted in Kazakhstan in Astana as part of EXPO 2017. However the contest was later cancelled due to a legal challenge.
