Khakassia and Kumyk are both undecided on whether they will be participating in the Bala Turkvizyon Song Contest 2016 in Turkey.

Khakassia and the Kumyk population of the Russian Federation are yet to decide on whether they will be participating in the Bala Turkvizyon Song Contest 2016. Both regions have confirmed to Eurovoix World that they are awaiting further information from the organisers of the contest before making a final decision on participating in this years contest.

Both Khakassia and Kumyk were due to participate in the first Bala Turkvizyon Song Contest in 2015. Both regions as well as other participants from the Russian Federation were forced to withdraw from the contest following a deterioration in relations between Russia and Turkey. Khakassia had selected Katya Kyzlasova to represent them in Istanbul, while Karim Salavatov was due to represent the Kumyk population.

To date a total of eight countries and regions have confirmed their participation in Bala Turkvizyon 2016, they are:

  • Azerbaijan – Aydan Ilxasade
  • Belarus – Ruslana – Song unknown
  • Kazakhstan – Selection underway
  • Stavropol Krai – Madina Kartakeyva – Song unknown
  • Turkey – Host nation
  • Ukraine – Ljudmila Bazadzhi – Song unknown
  • Yakutia – Participant and song unknown

The following countries and regions competed in 2016 but are yet to confirm their participation; Albania, Gagauzia, Georgia, Iran, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan and Macedonia.

The Bala Turkvizyon Song Contest was first held in 2015. The contest is the children’s version of the Turkvizyon Song Contest. Participants in the contest must be aged between 8 and 15 and perform their song in a Turkic language. The winner of the contest is decided by a jury made up one person representing each competing country. The winner of the first contest were Azerbaijan who were represented by Nuray & Ahmed and the song “Cocukluk Yillari”.
