Ufa the capital of Bashkortostan in Russia was to be the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World in 2016 before the announcement by Russia forcing the region to withdraw from TURKSOY.
The announcement comes from TURKSOY in response to the withdrawal of nearly all of the Russian regions from the organisation over the past week. The organisation says that they did not receive any information from the Russian Government as to why the regions were withdrawn from the organisation and did not recieve any warning that it would occur. They go on to say that any news they have had regarding withdrawals from the organisation has come through press reports.
Instead of Ufa being the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World the title will be going to Sheki, Azerbaijan.
