Bulgaria has selected the two singers who will represent them at the 2019 edition of Slavianski Bazaar.
18 year old Nikolay Georgiev and 10 year Maxim Yalnazov have been selected to represent Bulgaria at Slavianski Bazaar 2019. 10 year old Maxim will be representing Bulgaria at the children’s contest, while Nikolay will take part in the International Pop Song Performers Contest.
A total of 38 applications were received by the Bulgarian delegation to compete in the selection. Of the 38 applicants 24 made it through to the final. The winner of the selection was determined by a jury formed of:
- Yetiyen Levi – Vocal coach
- Maya Raykova – Producer and vocal coach
- Donna-Maria – Singer and producer
- VenZi – Singer
- Thedoro Koychinov – Singer & Radio Host
- Stefan Lalchev – Singer
- Nikolay Tekeliev – Head of Delegation
Nikolay was the youngest of the twenty four singers who competed in the Bulgarian selection, having turned 18 just days before the selection was held in Sofia.
Bulgaria’s best results at Slavianski Bazaar came in 2015 and 2002. In 2015 and 2002, the nation received second prize with Nikolai Manolo and Todor Georgiev picking up the prize for Bulgaria.
What is Slavianski Bazaar?
Slavianski Bazaar has been held annually in Vibetsk, Belarus since 1992. The event consists of two competitive contests, the International Pop Song Performers Contest for singers age 18 to 31, and the Children’s Contest for those age between 7 and 12. The competition is popular in the former Soviet Union, Baltic States and the Balkans. Winners include Ruslana, Zeljko Joksimovic, Donny Montell and Alyona Lanskaya. The Children’s Contest has been held since 2003 and former winners include singers who have gone on to compete in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. This includes former winner Ksenia Sitnik who won for Belarus in 2005.
