Two past Georgian Turkvision Song Contest participants have come together to release a new song, “Elan”.
Anar Askerov and Aysel Mamedova have welcomed the new year by releasing a new song “Elan”. This is not the first time that Anar and Aysel have performed together, having previously performed a number of concerts and released singles together in the past couple of years. Anar and Aysel have both representing Georgia at the Turkvision Song Contest, with both singers being part of the ethnic Azerbaijani population of Georgia which numbers around 230,000.

The two singers were the first female singers to represent Georgia at the contest and performed the song “Tenhayam”. They however finished last in the semi final scoring 141 points, they scored the maximum 10 points from Azerbaijan, but received on average just 5.7 points from all other competing countries.
At the 2015 Turkvision Song Contest Anar Askerov representing Georgia. He is to date the only singer from Georgia to have performed in the final of the Turkvision Song Contest. At the final in Istanbul, Turkey he performed “Tenha yürek”, he finished 16th with 138 points, the song scored on average 6.9 points from the other 20 competing countries.

The Turkvision Song Contest was first held in 2013 in the Turkish city of Eskisehir. The contest which is open to Turkic nations and regions such as Turkey, Kazakhstan and Yakutia. The contest follows a similar format to the Eurovision Song Contest, with songs limited to being 4 minutes long. To date Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have won the contest.
