Oksana Bilera has spoken to Eurovoix World about what it means to her to represent Latvia at the Turkvision Song Contest 2016.
Ahead of the 4th edition of the Turkvision Song Contest we have caught up with the Latvian entrant, Oksana Bilera. Oksana is representing Latvia on their debut in this years contest and is hoping to impress viewers across the world next month. We talked to her about how her participation came about, her love of Turkish culture and what she hopes to get out the contest.
Thanks so much for talking to us Oksana, how are you feeling ahead of the Turkvision Song Contest 2016?
I’m feeling myself really good but at the same time I’m a little bit nervous. Time to time I feel a very big responsibility because I really want to show you all of my possibilities as good as I can, I want everyone of viewers and listeners in Turkey to feel themselves; good and happy.
Now you are the first singer to represent Latvia at the contest, how did your participation in the event come about?
Many years ago I met a wonderful singer whose name was Gunesh Abasova. She had represented Belarus at the festival in Jurmala. As far as I remember she won the Grand Prix. It was approximately 8 years ago. After that it had been a little period of time and we met each other again but that time in the semifinal at the festival which name is “New Wave”. And every time when I saw her I was really glad to meet her. And then it happened. She had told me about this great festival and offered me to send a request and participate in the Turkvision.
You’ve been performing for a number of years, what was it that drew you towards singing?
Since my childhood I had been being a very active child. I always participated in different creative festivals and concerts when I was in the kindergarten. After that I started to learn playing piano. And when I was about 14 years I had got a great desire to sing so that’s why I chose this direction in my life.
You normally perform in Russian, what will it be like for you to perform in Turkish at the contest?
I can’t explain why but I always liked Turkish culture so much. I really love Turkish music and I like Turkish language. And now I can say that I’m really happy. Because of this competition I have started learning language to sound beautiful with right pronunciation and to understand what I’m singing about. Of course it can be difficult sometimes for me but Turkish language is so amazing and that’s why I get only a great pleasure from singing on this language.
The song you will be representing Latvia with is called “Yakisiyor bize bu sevgi” can you tell us more about it?
This song was written for me some years ago. It’s included in my last album which is called “The Forbidden Fruit”. First it was on Russian and the name of this song was “Game“. But when we had figured out that I will participate in the Turkvision, we took this song and we significantly changed style and lyrics into Turkish. Actually this song was reborn. So it will be a some kind of revival of this song.
Can you reveal any details about your performance in the contest or what we can expect?
All the details about my performance you will know soon in December in a beautiful city Istanbul. Because I don’t want to tell all my secrets. But now I can say one thing about my goal. In my mind my main goal is to tell everyone how it is important to find your true love in the whole world.
What are you most looking forward to about participating in the Turkvision Song Contest?
First of all I expect to see one of the most beautiful city on our Earth – Istanbul. The second thing that I expect is to meet new friends and many talent people in my life. The third thing is to get this mad energy from this fest, and of course to share my love and kindness.
Finally do you have a message for your fans and Eurovoix World readers?
I want to say a big thank you to every person who are with me now, because only with your support I have the strength and confidence. Also I hope that we will have a long friendship with people that I’ll meet. Thank you!
