Oguz Sirmali who represented Iraq at the Turkvision Song Contest 2015 is set to release his debut album later this year.

Oguz Sirmali the Iraqi entrant in the Turkvision Song Contest 2015 will release his debut album in 2017. The singer who has opted to move away from performing as a band and instead focus on his solo career. The exact date of the albums release has not yet been revealed. Oguz has been singing professionally since 2004 when he graduated from Hacettepe University in Istanbul.

Oguz represented Iraq at the 3rd edition of the Turkvision Song Contest in Istanbul, Turkey with the song “Serenat”. Performing 8th on the night he finished in 17th place scoring a total of 137 points, this is the best result to date for an Iraqi entry in the contest. The song also received a special award from the jury, “The Peace Prize”.

Iraq was one of 24 countries and regions to participate in the Turkvision Song Contest. For the first two contests the country was represented by Ahmet Tuzlu. At both the 2013 and 2014 contest he failed to make it to the final. At the 2014 contest in Kazan Iraq finished 18th in the semi final scoring 155 points, this included 2 sets of 9 points from Turkmenistan and Ukraine. In 2015 Iraq performed in their first final with Oguz Sirmali performing “Serenat”, he finished 17th scoring 137 points.
