Aris Appaev is set to take to the Turkvision Song Contest stage, three years after he was selected to represent Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia.
In 2015 Aris beat off competition from nine other hopefuls to be selected to represent the two regions of Russia in the Turkvision Song Contest. He was forced to withdraw following a deterioration in relations between Turkey and the Russian Federation.
Aris was due to perform the song “Unutma – meni” at the 2015 contest in Istanbul, it has yet to be confirmed if he will still perform this song in 2018. The official website for the Turkvision Song Contest has yet to state what the title of his entry for this years contest is.
The singer has been performing since he was the age of 10 and now owns his own record label. In recent years he has participated in multiple international competitions and has worked with singers from across the world.
The Turkvision Song Contest was last held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2015. The contest was then cancelled in 2016 due to issues securing a suitable host city for the contest, following security issues in Turkey. In 2017 the contest was due to return to the stage, hosted in Kazakhstan in Astana as part of EXPO 2017. However the contest was later cancelled due to a legal challenge.
