Kazakhstan has confirmed they will be competing in New Wave Junior 2017, with their participant to be selected on April 2.

Twelve singers from across Kazakhstan are in the running to represent Kazakhstan at New Wave Junior 2017 in Artek, Crimea. The Kazakh representative is being chosen through the television series Ayalaғan Astana-2017. Over 300 children took part in audition rounds across Kazakhstan in January and February, with the best twelve singers going through to compete in the live shows from March 27 to April 2.

Ayalaғan Astana is being held this year for the fifth time and is open to singers aged between 7 and 13 years old. The winner of the competition will be decided by a jury made up of both domestic and international music experts and performers. As well as the public at home will be able to vote for who they want to see represent Kazakhstan at New Wave Junior 2017.

Kazakhstan has competed in every edition of New Wave Junior since it was first held in 2008. At the first contest in 2008 Kazakhstan was declared joint winners alongside Belarus. Since then the country has finished third twice and has been awarded the People’s Choice Award once.

New Wave Junior was held for the first time in 2008 and is the children’s version of New Wave. The competition is open to singers under the age of 12 years. Over 30 countries have participated in the contest since it was first held with Ukraine the most successful country in the contest to date. Former winners include Eurovision winners, Gaia Cauchi, Sofia Tarasova and Anastasiya Petryk.
