Kazakh media is reporting that the singer Dimas Kudaibergen is preparing to represent Kazakhstan at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Dimas Kudaibergen won Slavic Bazaar in 2015 and went on to represent Kazakhstan on their debut in the ABU TV Song Festival 2015. Aiman Musakhodzhayeva who is one of a number of “People’s Artists of Kazakhstan” stated that they want to see the singer at Eurovision, The Voice UK and The Voice USA. Mrs Musakhodzhayeva added that she could see Dimas winning Eurovision and bringing the contest to Kazakhstan.
It is widely thought that Kazakhstan is trying to participate in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest as so to gain additional promotion for Expo 2017 in Astana. The country does have previous success in international song contests having won the 2014 Turkvizyon Song Contest in Kazan, Tatarstan with the singer Zhanar Dugalova.
The country joined the EBU as an associate member in December and thus is currently not eligible to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest under current rules. The country has long wanted to participate in the contest and has broadcast the contest on a number of ocassions in the past few years.
