Chyltys Tannagashev was among thousands in Kemerovo who celebrated the International Day of Indigenous People earlier this month.

Chyltys Tannagashev who represented Kemerovo at the 2013 Turkvizyon Song Contest is a member of the Shor people. Shors are the indigenous people of the southern regions of the Kemerovo Oblast, as of 2010 there are 12,888 Shors living in the Russian Federation. Shors speak one of the worlds least spoken languages Shor, less than 3000 people in the Russian Federation currently speak the language.

Chyltys Tannagashev performed at a day of celebrations in the village of Chuvaska, the event drew people from the surrounding region. The celebrations saw a day of competitions take place between villages in the region including the tug of war, archery and stone throwing.

The Turkvizyon Song Contest was first held in 2013 in the Turkish city of Eskişehir. The contest which is open to Turkic nations and regions such as Turkey, Kazakhstan and Yakutia. The contest follows a similar format to the Eurovision Song Contest, with songs limited to being 4 minutes long. To date Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have won the contest.
