Zaira Kaderagaeva has stated that she will compete to represent Kumyk on their debut in the Turkvizyon Song Contest this year.

Zaira Kaderagaeva has become the first artist to express her interest in representing Kumyk on their debut in the Turkvizyon Song Contest. Earlier this year Zara finished 2nd in the “Voice of Russia” contest. The “Voice of Russia” is an annual contest for performers of “People’s Songs” from across the Russian Federation.

Kumyk will be participating for the first time this year in the Turkvizyon Song Contest. The decision as to who will represent the Kumyk population of the Russian Federation at the contest will be taken by Qumuqlar, an organisation developed for preservation of the Kumyk language, culture and the development of the Kumyk people.

Kumyk were due to debut in the Turkvizyon Song Contest 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey but were forced to withdraw from the contest due to a deterioration of relations between Turkey and the Russian Federation. In 2015 they selected Gulmira, Fatima and Kamilya with the song “Alga” to represent them. Furthermore they were due to be represented by Karim Salavatov in the Bala Turkvizyon Song Contest.
