New Wave Junior’18: Contest to Take Place May 31 to June 1

New Wave Junior 2018 has launched its application process as the journey to Artek, Crimea begins for young singers across the globe.

New Wave Junior 2018 has officially been launched, as the contests organisers make an open call for young singers from across the world to take part in the competition. Young singers born between 2005 and 2011 are invited to apply to take part in the competition between now and March 20th, applications can come from soloists, duets and groups.

The competition will be held in four stages:

  • Stage One – Applications – Open from today until March 20
  • Stage Two – Russian Selection Semi-Final – To be held in Moscow in March
  • Stage Three – New Wave Junior Semi-Final – To be held in Moscow in April
  • Stage Four – New Wave Junior Final – To be held in Artek from May 31 to June 1

During both stage two and stage three, the singers who take part in these selection stages will perform a world hit and a song of their own. The singers who will take part in the final of New Wave Junior will be decided by an expert jury. The jury will be formed of organizers of the contest, popular Russian and foreign performers, producers, representatives of music companies and media representatives.

New Wave Junior was held for the first time in 2008 and is the children’s version of New Wave. The competition is open to singers under the age of 12 years. Over 30 countries have participated in the contest since it was first held with Ukraine the most successful country in the contest to date. Former winners include Eurovision winners, Gaia Cauchi, Sofia Tarasova and Anastasiya Petryk.

  1. That’s great, but here’s what I want to happen for this edition:

    * Maximum age to be raised to 14
    * Bulgaria, China, Italy, Malta, Romania, South Korea, and Ukraine to all return
    * Japan to debut (if so, I’m hoping for Japan to send Emi Kumamoto, from season 4 of “The Voice Kids” in Russia)
    * Stage design to be completely different
