Olga Shimanskaya has been announced as the representative of Poland on their debut in the Turkvision Song Contest 2016 in Turkey.

Olga Shimanskaya lead singer of the group NAPOLI will be representing Poland on their first appearance in the Turkvision Song Contest. Olga will be performing the song “Masal gibi bu dunya” which translates as “This world is like a tale”. Poland’s debut in this years contest brings the number of debuting countries and regions in the contest up to seven.

Olga will be well known to fans of the Eurovision Song Contest having attempted to represent both Poland and Belarus in the contest. Last year was the third time in succession that NAPOLI made it through to the final of Belarus’ Eurovision selection, they went on to finish in 2nd place in the final. The group then performed in the Polish selection with the same song but finished last.

The Polish entrant explained that:

I am very glad that this year I had the opportunity to present Poland on Turkvision competition. My mother is Polish and all my relatives who live in Poland, is very experienced and actively support me. I will be singing in Turkish for the first time, so now it is necessary to practice a lot on pronunciation. I want to reveal a little secret and tell you that I have prepared for the number of very unusual dress, which certainly will make a splash!

The Turkvision Song Contest was first held in 2013 in the Turkish city of Eskisehir. The contest which is open to Turkic nations and regions such as Turkey, Kazakhstan and Yakutia. The contest follows a similar format to the Eurovision Song Contest, with songs limited to being 4 minutes long. To date Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have won the contest.
