Sasha Santa has been selected to represent Russia at the New Wave Contest 2017 in Sochi, Russia.

Sasha Santa has been announced as one of the Russian entrant at New Wave 2017 this September in Sochi, Russia. Sasha is one of fifteen singers to have been selected to participate in the 15th edition of the New Wave Contest later this year. The singer was selected after an audition round was held in Moscow this past weekend.

Sasha was born in Temirtau, Kazakhstan in 1990 but now lives in Russia. He is no stranger to competitions having competed in Glavnaya stsena. Sasha has also competed in Slavianski Bazaar, he he took part in the contest for Kazakhstan. He has previously attempted to compete in New Wave, having finished as a semi finalist in the 2013 selection process.

Following his selection he posted on Facebook that:

It’s the best news in the past few days, friends! I’m so happy! Following the three-day casting, I am the representative of Russia in this year’s competition “New Wave”! it was my big dream from childhood to declare myself as a solo artist, it is in this contest! Thanks to everyone who believes in me.

To date the following singers have been announced as participating in the competition:

  • Kazakhstan – Rustem Zhugunussov
  • Russia – Sasha Santa

New Wave was first held in 2002 in Jurmala, Latvia. The contest which is held over three days is open to singers age between 16 and 35 years old. The competition is incredibly popular within Eastern Europe with up and coming performers taking to the stage alongside well-known guests from across the region. The contest has been a launching point for many careers including Intars Busulis, Natalia Gordienko and Jamala the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
