This weekend Russia will select their singers for the 26th edition of Slavianski Bazaar in Vibetsk, Russia with two days of auditions being held.
Russia selects their participants for Slavianski Bazaar 2016 in the capital, Moscow this weekend. The applications process was opened by the Russian Ministry of Culture in February, they will be selecting the countries entrants in both the International Pop Song Performers contest and the Children’s competition.
Russia has a long history competing in Slavianski Bazaar and has won the International Pop Song Performers Contest on three occasions. Teona Dolnikova was the first singer to win for Russia in 2001, this was followed by Aksana Bahasloŭskaja in 2006 and Dmitri Danilienka in 2009. Since their last victory in 2009 the country has failed to place within the top three of the competition.
The country has however had more recent success in the Children’s Competition with Anastasiya Gladilina winning last years contest. She is the third singer from Russia to have won the competition, following on from Roman Grychushnikav in 2004 and Lara in 2008.
