Tajikistan is set to debut at the Turkvision Song Contest 2018 represented by Tahmina Niyazova, joining a number of countries set to debut this year.
Tahmina who is one of the biggest names in the music industry in Tajikistan, will be returning to the competition stage having previously won the Intervision Song Contest in 2008. The singer who was unknown to the public when she participated in Intervision, has gone on to have a successful career performing across Tajikistan as well as globally.
Tajikistan will be debuting in this years contest alongside;
- The Netherlands
- Nogai (Russia)
The Turkvision Song Contest was last held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2015. The contest was then cancelled in 2016 due to issues securing a suitable host city for the contest, following security issues in Turkey. In 2017 the contest was due to return to the stage, hosted in Kazakhstan in Astana as part of EXPO 2017. However the contest was later cancelled due to a legal challenge.
The date and location of the this years contest has not been confirmed. It was revealed late last year that work was underway to bring the Turkvision Song Contest back to screens, read more here.
