The ABU TV Song Festival 2019 will be held in Tokyo, Japan as NHK is revealed as the host of the 8th edition of the festival.
NHK has been revealed as the host broadcaster for the 8th edition of the ABU TV Song Festival. The event which was first held in 2012, is travelling to Japan for the first time, with Tokyo set to be its backdrop. The festival will be held as part of the ABU General Assembly, with the show to take place on November 19.
The 2018 ABU TV Song Festival was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The show was hosted by Television, Radio and Cinematography Turkmenistan (TVTM), with assistance from the South Korean broadcaster, KBS. The countries that were selected to take part in the festival “reflect geographical balance and the cultural diversity of the Asia-Pacific region.” The nations that took to the stage in Turkmenistan were:
- Benin (African Union of Broadcasting)
- Hong Kong
- Russia (Represented by Turkmen singer, no broadcaster present)
- South Korea
- Uzbekistan – Debut
Japan has participated in every edition of the ABU TV Song Festival since it was first held in 2012. The nations representative is selected by NHK in cooperation with Sony Music, the nation has consistently sent some of its biggest musical stars to the event.
