Tonight the final rounds of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival 2016 will be held in Chile with six singers in two categories left in the contest.
Earlier this week the semi final stages of the International Contest and the Folk Contest were held with three countries from each selection being selected to compete in the final tonight. The show tonight is the largest song contest in South America and is being broadcast to millions of viewers across the Americas from the United States to Argentina.
Competing tonight in the International contest are:
- Australia – Allison Elgueta – Move On
- Chile – Cristián and Lucía Covarrubias – Te quiero
- Mexico – Alexander Acha – Vas a ver
The results of the semi final mean that we could be looking at the first Australian victory in the contest since 1985. Chile will be hoping to end a 12 year drought from their last victory in the international round, while Mexico could be on the verge of their first victory.
Competing in the Folk contest are:
- Panama – Afrodisiaco – Viene de Panamá
- Peru – Maribel Chira – Sandunguera
- United States – Paulina Aguirre – Canoita
The line up of the final of the Folk contest means that Chile will not be able to win the category for the sixth year in a row. Peru last won the Folk round in 2008 while the United States and Panama have never won the folk contest.
