A further three artists have been knocked out of Sao Mao 2019, after the second finale show was held last night by VTV.
The second of four finales was held last night in Vietnam, with twelve singers taking to the stage. This weeks contest saw four singers in each of the three categories return to the stage all competing for a place in the next show on Sunday evening. In the end the jury decided that the singers who will not progress through to the next show were Hoang Quy (Opera), Ha Giang (Folk) and Nguyen Thi Quynh (Pop).
The nine artists going through to the next show on Sunday evening are:
- Dieu Thuy – Opera
- Ha Giang – Folk
- Hai Yen – Opera
- Hoang Quy – Opera
- Linh Chi – Opera
- Mai Thy – Folk
- Nguyen Thi Quy – Folk
- Nguyen Thi Quynh – Pop
- Phuong Mai – Pop
- Quynh Anh – Folk
- Thanh Tam – Pop
- Thuy Duong – Pop
The Deputy Head of the Organising Committe for Sao Mai 2019 added:
The second night saw the fierce competition and tried to break out of many voices. The Organising Committee hopes that you will affirm the performance and the stage spirit, conquer judges and the audience. We will support the contestants so that you will be confident, uplifted on stage, whether successful or not, depending on your efforts. In the final night, we are gradually recognizing outstanding personalities but we believe that in fair competition like Sao Mai stage, surprise and success are always for the best efforts. Opportunity is for all.

The winner of Sao Mai will represent Vietnam at the ABU Song Contest 2019. The way in which the Vietnamese song for the competition will be selected has not yet been revealed. Sao Mai will be broadcast by VTV6.
VTV has participated in the ABU TV Song Festival annually since it was first held in 2012. The broadcaster also hosted the 2013 edition in Hanoi, and is one of just a handful of broadcasters to have taken part in every edition. The Vietnamese national broadcaster has also taken part in the ABU Radio Song Festival and the ABU International Dance Festival.
