Cordia won over the Welsh public

Cordia have won the 2016 edition of Can i Gymru (Song for Wales).

The show last night was held live from the Welsh Capital, Cardiff and saw eight artists competing for the title and £5000. Cordia won the Welsh public over with their song “Dim ond un”. Cordia will go on to represent Wales at the Pan Celtic Song Contest 2016. After winning the contest Cordia told the press that:

The song is about mental illness. The message of the song is that there is always someone there to help you and you’re never on your own. Our music teacher at Ysgol David Hughes school, Gwennant Pyrs has won the competition on a previous occasion with the song Dal i Gredu and she has inspired us to compete.

The entertainment commissioner at S4C added that:

Congratulations to the winner of Cân i Gymru 2016 and to all the performers for a night full of memorable and dynamic performances. It was wonderful to see a number of new, up and coming songwriters and singers competing as well as some familiar faces. Congratulations and best of luck to Cordia as they go on to perform at the Pan-Celtic Song Festival.
